Student Eligibility Requirements

Attendance​
To meet eligibility for the attendance requirement, the following guidelines are in place:
  • Graduate with a 95% attendance rate, based on four years;
  • Cumulative attendance information used by the A+ Coordinators will come from the official attendance records kept by the Boonville R-I School District;
  • For students who attend tech school for ONE HALF of the day, attendance information will be gathered for the tech school and sent to the A+ Coordinator who will add this information to the Boonville R-I School District records;
  • Following the end of each semester, after receiving official notification from the Boonville R-I School District, the A+ Coordinator will send the attendance information tot the student and parent(s).  This information will include the cumulative percentage of attendance;
  • After receiving this information, the student and/or parent will have 10 day to file an absence appeal with the A+ Coordinator;
  • When filing an appeal, the student and/or parent must do so using the A+ Waiver of Absence Form found in the student manual; Student and parent signatures on the A+ Schools Participation Agreement allows the A+ Coordinator to check attendance records to verify compliance with this requirement.
Citizenship​
Participation in the A+ Schools Program is an honor and a privilege for Boonville R-I high school students.  A+ students are required to be good citizens.

To meet eligibility for the citizenship requirement, the following guidelines are in place:

  • An A+ student will not sell, possess, or use a controlled substance and /or related paraphernalia as defined by law, including alcohol, unless prescribed by a licensed physician.
  • Citizenship certification will be based on the Student Discipline Code of the Boonville R-I School District.  All students are expected to comply with school and district policies and regulations.
  • Student and parent signatures on the A+ Schools Participation Agreement allows the A+ Coordinator to check discipline records to verify compliance with this requirement.
Grade Point Average​
To meet eligibility for the Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement, the student must:
  • Graduate with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale (weighted);
  • The cumulative GPA is for all 4 years of high school.  Cannot be rounded up;
  • The student's official transcript will serve as evidence of GPA for admission into a State Community College or State Career/Technical School.
Program Requirements​
In order to qualify for the A+ Schools Program, a student must:
  • ​Have an A+ application on file in the A+ Coordinator's office
  • Attend an A+ designated high school for the 3 consecutive years immediately prior to graduation
  • Graduate with at least a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Graduate with a 95% attendance rate
  • Score of proficient or advanced on the Algebra I end of course exam or a higher level DESE approved end-of-course exam in the field of mathematics or earn a qualifying ACT/GPA score​​​​
  • Perform 50 hours of unpaid tutoring/mentoring
  • Maintain a record of good citizenship and avoid the use and/or possession of illegal drugs and/or alcohol and/or related paraphernalia

In order to receive A+ funds from the state, the following must also be completed:

  • ​Make a good faith, documented effort to obtain Federal Financial​ Aid that does not require repayment
  • Provide the student's Social Security number and full name (including middle)
  • Have documentation of registration with Selective Services if required by law to do so

All requirements must be met, documented and a signed A+ Affidavit prior to graduation.

It is the responsibility of the student to continue to meet the requirements necessary to be certified as an A+ student upon graduation.

Social Security​

A student must provide the A+ Coordinator with the student's social security number to be kept on file in the A+ office.  This avoids delays in reimbursement to colleges.  These delays also prevent community college students from enrolling in future semesters.

Students without their social security number on file may be denied A+ funds.

Tutoring Requirements​
To meet eligibility for the tutoring requirement, the student must:
  • Perform 50 hours of unpaid tutoring/mentoring
  • Have an A+ Schools Participation Agreement on file in the A+ Office before beginning
  • Perform the tutoring under the supervision of a certified teacher
  • Submit a Student Tutoring Log to the A+ Coordinator for all hours towards this requirement
  • Furnish own transportation to/from the tutoring site
  • Follow program guidelines
Job Shadowing​
The job shadowing experience may count a maximum of 12 hours toward the 50 hour tutoring/mentoring requirement of the A+ Schools program
  • Obtain pre-approval from the A+ Coordinator
  • Job shadow a certified or degree bearing individual (not a parent/guardian, sibling, or other primary relative)
  • Furnish own transportation to/from the job shadow site
  • Follow program guidelines


The A+ Schools program is administered by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

The A+ Program may provide these educational incentives:
1)  provided state funds are appropriated by the legislature or
2)  subject to state funding approval
Funding is not the responsibility of the Boonville R-I School District​
